Investment Strategy

With the goal of catalyzing the brain tumor market, we seek to invest in a diversity of projects and companies that are either at the seed or growth stage, and that possess the ability to create new and novel treatments for well-defined patient populations. NBTS’s large network ensures that discoveries in universities that may someday help patients have a bridge to leave the academy and be developed by those who make medicines — biotechs and biopharmas.

Our process and investment deal flow facilitates the commercial development of new and promising brain tumor treatments. BTIF invites portfolio companies to participate in NBTS activities that in turn enhance their efforts, as we convene, educate, and unite the brain tumor community.

Main areas of brain tumor research currently represented within our BTIF portfolio include:

  • DNA Damage Response (DDR)
  • Medical Devices
  • Tumor Metabolism
  • Precision Oncology
  • Immuno-Oncology

Investment Principles

Our strategy focuses on 5 key investment principles:

Due Dilligence Process

We have developed a rigorous process to ensure that generous donations are invested in well-vetted projects and companies. The Brain Tumor Investment Fund is supported by a highly experienced management team to identify the best opportunities, a world-class scientific advisory council to assess the robustness of the science, and an investment committee which further conducts business due diligence.

The goal is to catalyze the brain tumor therapeutics/diagnostics market by investing and incentivizing:

  • The creation of ventures to advance promising novel therapeutics to commercial development
  • The growth of companies with clear strategies toward clinical development
  • The application of novel technologies for brain tumor translational research with a goal of commercialization

By accelerating the development of transformational treatments, we aim to increase the number of drugs that reach the market and become available to patients, and in turn, significantly impact the life expectancy and quality of life of patients with a brain tumor.
